Nike Rides The Slim Sole Trend With The Women’s Astra Ultra

Nike’s new women’s-exclusive lifestyle sneaker has potential to be a huge hit. The Nike Astra Ultra comes from the same school as the trending PUMA Speedcat with a low profile, wavy upper, and slim sole featuring two different tread patterns. This “Triple Black” colorway is the first to emerge via official images.

Starting underfoot, the outsole is split into two sections. The forefoot comes with oval-shaped tread reminiscent of turf shoes, while an exaggerated, cupped heel section introduces a herringbone pattern. As for the upper, the Astra Ultra features matte synthetic materials and a series of sleek, curved lines. Reminding us of the Total 90 III, the tongue and eyelets are slanted inward for added uniqueness. Branding is kept to a minimum, with a lateral side forefoot Swoosh appearing almost invisible on this “Triple Black” colorway.

After years of over-reliance on models like the Dunk and Air Force 1, the Astra Ultra is a welcome deviation. The Elliot Hill regime claims to be focused on new models, and we’re already starting to see Nike follow through on that direction. We recently spilled ink on the Nike Ava Rover – a new “gorpcore” lifestyle sneaker – as well as an incoming soccer/lifestyle franchise called Nike Cryoshot.

Release information for the Nike Astra Ultra has yet to be announced, but the sneaker is expected to debut Fall 2025 for $110 (potentially as an overseas exclusive). Know that our Sneaker Release Dates hub will be kept current with all available info.
